Dieffenbachia 'Argentea-umbra' is a forgiving choice for most rooms, developing a slow climber within its first year.

It does best in medium filtered light, though it tolerates brief departures without sulking. Water little and often, keeping the mix barely moist. Yellowing lower leaves almost always mean too much, not too little.

Keep it at a humid corner or grouped planting; pot it in a free-draining cactus-leaning mix and refresh the top layer each spring. New leaves emerge paler and darken over their first fortnight.
